Despite massive flight disruptions, this weekend's London Marathon will boast the strongest field in its 30-year history. The volcanic ash cloud which closed British airspace for six days had threatened to disrupt the annual event. But with the skies now open again, all the so-called elite runners are expected to make it to the starting line. The main worry now for race organisers is the mini heat wave expected hit southern England over the weekend. Temperatures of 22C are forecast for Sunday, which could pose problems for the estimated 30,000 fun runners. The race, which starts in Blackheath and finishes in the Mall alongside St James's Palace, begins at 0945. Are you a keen runner or want to get into running? -->Clouds of volcanic ash have been causing international travel chaos again today as flights are grounded for yet another day due to the risk volcanic ash poses to aircraft engines.
The volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier has laid dormant for over 200 years and began to erupt 10 days ago, forcing hundreds of people to leave the area and leading authorities to divert flights.
When the volcano first erupted it spewed mostly fire and lava, but the latest eruption has spurted out a cloud of steam, smoke and ash up to 7 miles high, and has showed no signs of calming down after 40 hours of activity.
