Plans for Corrie - The Musical

A stage musical version of Coronation Street is reportedly being planned as part of the soap's 50th birthday celebrations next year.

According to The Sun, composer Trisha Ward is working alongside the ITV1 programme's scriptwriters to create the musical, which will focus on the lives and loves of favourite characters including Ken and Deirdre Barlow.

It is not known whether any of the soap's past or present cast members will star in the production.

The musical is one of several events being lined up to mark the milestone anniversary in December 2010.

A Coronation Street spokesman said a musical was "one of a number of plans we are currently looking into for the 50th anniversary celebrations".
