Ne-Yo knocks Coldplay from top spot

Ne-Yo has knocked Coldplay from the top of the singles chart with his track Closer.

The song overtook sales for Coldplay's single Viva La Vida to give the US singer-songwriter his second number one in the UK.

Viva La Vida, the second single from the album of the same name, went straight to the top of the charts last week on downloads alone.

Elsewhere, Jordin Sparks was the highest new entry with his single No Air, while Chris Brown's song Forever climbed one place to number four.

The album charts saw the top three remain static, with Coldplay, Duffy and Neil Diamond staying put, while Darren Styles' Skydivin' went straight in at number four.

In related news, Coldplay are planning to give away a free song on their winter tour.

The band wants to give away an unreleased track to fans who have bought a ticket for the UK shows, reports the BBC.

Eavis says Noel Gallagher can take a joke

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis thinks Noel Gallagher will be able to take a joke after Jay-Z poked fun at his comments onstage.

The superstar rapper entered to a backing tape of the Oasis star's suggestions that hip hop does not belong at the event, following up with a rendition of their hit song Wonderwall.

However, Eavis was confident that Gallagher would be able to take such antics in his stride.

"Jay-Z's intro tape was great, wasn't it?" he said.

"Noel can take it, they're tough fellas, aren't they? They used to work on a building site, didn't they? They can handle it. They're good friends of ours though, they've helped us a lot in the past the Gallagher brothers, I'm not going to slag them off.

Eavis claimed the rapper's performance proved the doubters wrong, declaring it "a real triumph".

The Verve drew the festival to a close last night with their headline slot on the Pyramid Stage.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie to split

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are to announce they are separating when the singer finished her world tour, it has emerged.

The couple have been married for seven years and have three children – seven-year-old son Rocco, two-year-old adopted son David Banda and 11-year-old daughter Lourdes from Madonna's previous relationship with dancer Carlos Leon.

She is due to begin her Sticky and Sweet tour in Cardiff in August, but the couple are expected to officially announce the split after the final concerts have taken place in Mexico.

It has been rumoured that the pair have been having difficulties for the last two years.

"They're obviously sad but they're dealing with it like grown-ups," said a friend of the couple.

"Things have run their natural course. [But] although the marriage is coming to an end, they don't want to say anything until the tour is over."

It has been reported that Madonna has been consulting Paul McCartney's divorce lawyer Fiona Shackleton.

Naomi Campbell charged over airport incident

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been charged with five offences after being arrested for clashing with a police officer at Heathrow last month.

The highly-strung 37-year-old was held at the beleaguered Terminal 5 in April after a row broke out with airline staff who informed her some of her baggage had been lost.

Consequently, the police were called and Campbell was handcuffed and led off the plane, before being released on bail.

She answered bail at Heathrow police station yesterday (May 29th) and was charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer, an offence of disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and one count of threatening or abusive behaviour towards a cabin crew member.

A spokesman for British Airways said last month: "All incidents of abusive or disruptive behaviour towards fellow passengers or staff are taken extremely seriously and will not be tolerated."

Ms Campbell was sentenced to community service in New York last year after being convicted of assault.
