Fashion Insider

Our ladieswear buyer Chantelle knows a thing or two about fashion.

When she’s not choosing the next season’s key pieces for Studio, she’s looking for fresh style inspiration and the next big thing.

Recently back from a fashion-packed trip to Barcelona, she shares her take on the Spanish city’s chic street style.

Chantelle: “Spain has great high street style and particularly in Barcelona. The city has a reputation as being the capital of cool, continental style and after just a few days in the city, it’s easy to see why. You can be inspired by just about everything in Barcelona, from the architecture, cafĂ© culture and their laid back street style to the colour and patterns spotted as you wander down Las Ramblas.

“The team and I often head on international trips to pick up fresh inspiration for our own trend forecasting and to help inform what we’re buying next season.  We spent an amazing few days checking out everything from the big department stores, small boutiques and independents shops, to fashionistas on the street. We then combine this research with trend predictions and work with our designers to finalise pieces - we’re currently forecasting 2020!

“This particular trip was all about swimwear so we headed to the beaches and coast. Swimwear hits the shops in Barcelona way earlier than it does here in the UK, so it’s a great first step for me to see any emerging trends, which might take a little longer to come through on the UK high street.

Name: Chantelle Hart, 28

Job: Senior Buyer, Ladieswear, Studio

Fashion icon: I love Emma Willis - if I look that glamorous and classy at 40 I’ll be a happy lady!

Favourite summer wardrobe item: There is a gorgeous lace detail jersey t-shirt new for this year. It’s great value and a perfect layering piece; the lace gives it a really feminine feel. It can transform any outfit and be worn from day to night which I love.

Fashion faux pas?

At the age of 18, I was obsessed with vintage clothing and recycling styles from charity shops, and amending them, but looking back some of the outfit choices were questionable! Grandma skirts worn as dresses with vintage belts - cringe!
