Jim Carrey turns on Christmas lights

Jim Carrey has switched on the Christmas lights in Oxford Street along with a host of other celebrities.

The actor, who plays Scrooge in an upcoming performance capture-adaptation of A Christmas Carol, was joined in London by Peter Andre, The Saturdays and Spandau Ballet.

Carrey told a source: "It feels great to be a part of all this tradition.

"I want to thank the people of Britain for the legacy of Charles Dickens and the chance to tell this story. This story couldn't be more important now - it's about the immorality of greed."

Carrey's fellow cast members Colin Firth and Bob Hoskins switched on the lights at Regent Street and St Paul's Cathedral respectively.

Firth said of the lights: "Well I think it's all a bit tacky and over-the-top quite frankly, but why not? That's what Christmas is all about."
